Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation

Dry cupping and sports massage are two unique treatments designed to promote recovery after exercise and injury, and to leave your body flexible and pain-free. This helps you to perform at your best. Each boasts a range of benefits, and when used together, these treatments can help athletes and sportspeople (and for anyone who just wants to feel relief get the most out of their bodies)

Dry Cupping

Dry cupping is an ancient form of alternative therapy that originated in China and is primarily used to ease pain. It involves placing specially designed cups on the skin on the upper and low back, legs, or other body parts to create suction, drawing fluid to the affected area. This suction expands and breaks open the tiny blood vessels under the skin.

The body then treats the cupping areas as an injury, increasing blood flow to the area to stimulate the natural healing process. This relieves muscle tension, improves overall blood flow, releases toxins, and promotes cell repair.

Here is a list of common ailments cupping can be beneficial in treating:

  • Back and Neck Pain.
  • Knee Pain.
  • Shoulder Pain.
  • Sports Injuries and Recovery.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
  • Respiratory issues
  • Headaches and Migraines.
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Insomnia

Sports Therapy/Massage

A sports massage is a specialized type of massage therapy designed to help athletes and anyone who exercises to increase flexibility and endurance, improve performance, prevent injuries, and help promote healing after an injury. It is specifically tailored to different sports and sporting injuries and works by stretching tight muscles, stimulating inactive muscles, and improving the condition of the soft tissue. The main aim of a sports massage is to reduce the stress and tension that can build up in the soft tissue of the body during exercise.

A sports massage can also be beneficial for people with physically demanding jobs (or jobs where your body is in a strained position for long periods such as desk jobs) to help reduce chronic pain and stiffness and help increase range of motion.

Sports massage aims at targeting and releasing tight “trigger points” and “muscle knots” where the muscles store tension. Sports massage can also be very beneficial in treating depression and anxiety. Massage is scientifically proven to release endorphins (serotonin and dopamine) These are positive hormones that can give a person a sense of well-being and reduced anxiety along with promoting relaxation.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a form of manual therapy in which fine Acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points to relieve tension. All needles are single use and disposable. It is generally very safe. Serious side effects are very rare.

When a dry needle is implanted into the affected muscle or trigger point, it can decrease muscle tightness, increase blood flow and reduce pain. Clients often report immediate relief after treatment. The needles remain in your muscle for a short period of time — between 10 seconds and up to 10 minutes. This depends on the treatment location, number of needles used and treatment goals.

Dry needling usually is paired with exercise and other physical therapy techniques to prevent trigger points from reoccurring
