What is Retinol?

Retinol is one of the best ingredients that you can use for reversing the signs of ageing skin. It stimulates skin renewal and boosts collagen product. Retinol can reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkle and age spots. Your skin will be transformed, leaving it firmer, smoother and your skin tone visibly even.

A recent study showed significant improvements to ageing skin over the course of a one month period after using an over-the-counter product with 0.1% retinol in.

Retinol really is like receiving a golden ticket when it come to skincare!

What are the cons?

While Retinol is the superhero ingredient for anti-aging, there is one main downfall with this product. It can be drying. We suggest using Retinol at night time and then in the morning you can moisturise to make sure your skin stays hydrated.

Retinol can take some getting used to for your skin so we recommend using this product 2 or 3 nights a week and building it up. If you feel this it too much or your skin feels dry then you can always pull back on usage.

Which Retinol should I use?

It is always best if you start on a lower strength Retinol and then build up the strength when your skin is used to having this added to your skincare routine.

The Retinol that we always recommend and also stock in our clinic is the Medik8 Retinol. You can start on Retinol 3TR and move onto 6TR then 10TR if needed.

The reason we love this Retinol is because it is designed to complement the skin’s nightly regenerative cycle.  The serum resurfaces while you sleep to rejuvenate skin and restore radiance. It is delivered gradually into the deeper layers of the skin throughout the night to ensure maximum results without overwhelming or irritating skin.
