What causes blackheads?
All over our skin are our pores, they are especially visible on the nose, forehead and cheeks are they are larger there. At the base of every pore is a hair follicle which your body hair grows from. In addition to this the pores help to keep our skin healthy and protected via the secretion of oil and sweat. Sometimes, our pores get congested with oil which then traps dead skin cells which would usually naturally flake away. From this a solid mass is is formed called ‘comedone’, when the top of this is exposed to the air it oxidises and turns black, hence the name “blackhead”.
How does a Microdermabrasion Treatment help?
Gentle abrasive crystals are passed over the skin during a Microdermabrasion facial. This helps to loosen any dead skin and remove the top part of the blackhead which is on the surface. The vacuuming stage then removes any particles along with dirty and dead skin build up, eliminating skin debris and minimising imperfections, blemishes, wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation.
In addition, Microdermabrasion also speeds up cell renewal, which means that your skin will ‘slough’ more quickly and efficiently. Therefore blackheads are far less likely to form. What can I do at home?
As well as regular Microdermabrasion facials, we would recommend you take a look at your home skin care routine. Cleanse your skin every single night before bed. Exfoliate with a gentle exfoliator twice a week.
