Really not one to get involved in other people’s practice as it can reflect badly as a bitter jealous competitor. This is purely an educational post as many people are unaware of this practice or unaware of the dangers of such practice.

We are becoming increasingly aware of the sharing of syringes of filler. The assurance is that the needle is changed.

This is NOT ok!!

There is a massive difference between having 1/2ml of lip filler and 1/2 syringe.

Look at the photographs. This shows 1/2ml Juverderm Volift and 1ml of Juvederm Volift.

As you can see in the purple boxes they come in two different sizes. If you look at the syringes you can see the filler in them both – one has 1ml in the other 0.55ml.

You are paying your money and putting your trust in the injector. You require a clean sterile unopened filler that is for you, only you and any left over will be disposed of immediately.

Each filler comes with two needles… that is two needles for you, not for you and your friend, or some random person you don’t even know. Two needles are supplied as when doing multiple injections, you have the option to change the needle mid procedure as it can start to blunt making it more painful.

For your safety when I am injecting into the lips, at every injection I aspirate this means that each time I put the needle into your lip, I pull the plunger back checking for any back flow of blood which could indicate the needle was in a blood vessel / artery. Blood, bodily fluid can flow back into the syringe of filler.

Still not convinced? Would you prefer the first half or second half? Just Incase some of Fred from down the roads bodily fluid is lurking in that filler? Do you want a bit of Sally’s cold sore? Christines undisclosed HIV?

Pretty gruesome?! 🤮

Please for your own safety ~ do not ever willingly share a syringe of filler whether it’s your best friend your mum anyone.

Next time you have a dermal filler treatment;

Ask to see the product in sealed packaging which should be opened in front of you.

Ask to see the volume on the syringe, if you have ordered 1/2ml question if a 1ml syringe is being used.

Ask to see the syringe being disposed of after you have finished. This should be in a sharps bin (needle bin) these are usually yellow and have a non return lid so no one can get anything out of them.

And remember the biggest preventive on infection control is hand washing. If you haven’t seen your practitioner wash there hands in front of you – ask them too. A good contentious practitioner will not be offended by this.

Don’t forget no touching those freshly injected lips and keep your hands nice and clean Incase they do touch.
